Greetings to all on this list.

On this topic I would just like to add that whereas listening to

music can be a passive form of activity, repeating the Divine Name

requires that the will is engaged - indeed, it is said that this

japa purifies the will.

When one sings, especially if one sings with feeling, one may

experience great joy, happiness etc.The performance of Japa however,

enables one to stand back, so to speak, and eventually arrive at a

state of Divine dispassion and detatchment.

Also,I believe that it has been said that altough this may taste

bitter at first, in the end it will lead to the very esscence of all

sweetness, whilst materiel pleasures seeming sweet at the beginning

soon loose their savour, and drag one down deep into illusion and

bondage.

I would agree with the gentleman who said that after years of

practice, one will never feel that this is monotonous!
