How and when did Sri Ramakrishna acquire that name ?

Any special significance in the name change from

Gadadhar to Ramakrishna ?

Dear Prasad,

Gadadhar became Ramakrishna sometime during his early years in

Dakshineswar.

According to Isherwood is is not clear when and how the name change

took place.

There are three theories:

1) Ramakrishna was named such by his parents; this is doubtful.

2) Ramakrishna was named by Tota Puri at the time of his initiation.

Saradananda mentions this in chapter 10 of his book.

3) Ramakrishna was named such by Mathur Babu. This is the theory most

widely accepted.
