Guest guest
Dear Murthy Ji, Following is my understanding. On your question Lord Krishna has said in Bhagawat-Gita there are four kinds of devotees - One who prays only for material things coz of his convistion in worldy life, second one who is inquisitive i.e tries to know God and that it is good to do that but yet is enjoying material life!, third type is one who is totally into trying to realise God thinking that it is only thing worth trying for in a Human Birth..but he is not God- realised yet, finally fourth is who has realised God while living and thus 'loves' Him. Keeping aside the fourth stage I think the first three can be classified as you said as neophyte, a mediocre, and advanced. Lord has said that he grants whatever any of these devotees want. And I think the catch word is " want " . We can be granted anything provided the " call " is full. Once that is there then it is said - " Mukam karoti vachalam pangum langhayate Girim " (Mute can speak eloquently and Lame can jump a mountain). Be it a neophyte or mediocre or advanced. There are moments in life of any person - say when listening to some beautiful bhajan which takes him to a higher level of devotion for sometime or may be some painfull experience makes his state prayerfull with a whole heart. Because as said by Thakur there is one thing that God cannot overlook and that is a call that is full. Now once His Grace has descended to wash our karmas - again it can be percieved differently by the devotee depending on his stage. A child wants his wound cured and the doctor cleans it with antiseptic solution which is so painfull. But this is all for the cure of wound for the child. The child may however hate doctor for doing this but Doctor will not mind his hatred and keep doing till his job is finished. As Thakur says " once admitted in hospital the doctor would not leave untill the disease is cured " . Many times we may think our prayer is full yet with no results or opposite results! but how can we foolish comprehend his ways!! Unless we have a faith on Him - that He has listened to our every prayer and whatever He bestows - success or failure - it is all out of His Compassion, His Love for us - His Children - a bad child a mediocre child or a good child - His nature is to Love and he is doing that in ways incomprehensible to us - His children!! This is my personal understanding of the concept. I am waiting to read and understand other Guru bhais' opinions! Pranams, Sriram.
