Effect of past karma on a devotee's life

Hi,

Earlier in the group we had a discussion on the effect of past

karma on a devotee's life. I came across the following when I was

reading the book " They Lived with God " .

This relates to the life of Gopaler-Ma, a staunch devotee of Gopala

and Sri Ramakrishna, who had the constant vision of Gopala.

After God-realization the illumined soul is carried along by the

momentum of his past karma, but he ceases to be affected by it. He

behaves like a witness, completely unattached to the world. He

continues his daily routine, and he helps other people towards

realization. Gopaler-ma also followed her old routine. But from time

to time she would visit the Master, and whatever visions she had

during meditation she would relate to him. Once he said to her, 'One

should not disclose one's visions to others, because it stops

further visions'.

Pranams,

Prasad.

dear all,

while the discussions are on past karma and its

effects, it seems one of the most justifiable laws of

creation. however, there are certain possible

inconsistencies which i ahve not been able to resolve

within my small understanding:

1. if the law of karma works perfectly, how can there

be increase in human population? how can new lives

come in ? does god think that the world sahould have

more populace as part of his Maya? or is there any

other explanation?

2. We see some people reaching great heights either

monetarily or fame-wise or in other ways. they achive

and attain great heights in many ways - rich

businessmen, aritiste, politician, writer, famous

orator, etc. etc. If we conclude that thsi is the

effect of past good deeds, then good Vasanas should

accompany them in this birth. howeevr, we find a lot

of them indulgin in a lot of malpractices of all

sorts. for e.g., a writer may engage in plagiarism, a

businessman exploits his employees heavily, a musician

destroys other competing rivals, etc. The point is

that what is it that makes them do these things. if

this is the thought process inherited from the past,

why the lord or law of karma should bestow upon them

suhc greatness in this birth ? i mean how do the good

and bad ones in the person go together?

3. how does the world produce hitlers, saddams,

stalins, etc. ? how will the law of karmas work in

thier cases? even death is nothing for their misdeeds.

highest form and level of torture is what they should

receive and that too for many many births. same thing,

in different measure, should apply to a businessman or

politician who kills or harms heavily his rivals.

4. thousands die together in an earthquake, flood,

bomb blast, etc. how can we say that all their karmas

are similar to result in suchn a stage and gory death

? is there any superhand that plans and accumulates

all such totally unconnected persons ? even a hype

computer or mathematical model cannot achive ethios !!

these and many other questions are and possibly will

remain unanswered for a long time.
