Thanks to Jai Raam for his posting!

Here is another excerpt.

Excerpt from the book

Vivekananda - East meets West

by Swami Chetanananda

*******************************

In Chicago, Swamiji told John D.Rockefeller much of his past that

was not known to any but himself and made him understand that

the money he had already accumulated was not his,

that he was only a channel and that his duty was to do good to the world

-that God had given him all his wealth in order that he might have an

opportunity

to help and do good to the people.

Rockefeller was annoyed that anyone dared to talk to him that way

and tell him what to do. He left the room in irritation, not even

saying good-bye.

But about a week after, again without being announced, he entered

Swamiji's study and ...threw on his desk a paper which told of his

plans to donate an enormous sum of money toward the financing of a

public institution.

" Well there you are " , he said. " You must be satisfied now

and you can thank me for it. "

Swamiji did'nt even lift his eyes and did not move.

Then taking the paper, he quietly read it, saying,

" It is for you to thank me. " That was all.

This was Rockefeller's first large donation to the public welfare.

********************************

Respected Shri. Jay

Pranams.

The effective flow of thoughts circulated in our group is worth laurels. If

I want to publish some of the thoughts circulated, in any magazine that is

being printed by Vivekanand Kendra, Kanyakumari ( to just get introduced

about us you may visit www.vivekanandakendra.org ) through its publication

department at various places what should be the procedure to get permission?

Please let me know.

Pranams.

We really do not know what procedure to adopt as some of the

postings are perhaps taken from other publications and there may be

copyright laws applicable to those publications. When you see a

posting (like the one about Rockerfeller) you should ask the

contributor if permission is necessary. We have been fairly

relaxed about the postings on this list and we know that some

of our postings have been published in Vedanta Kesari etc.

Hello Krishnaswamy,

The above quote was taken from a book

by Swami Chetanananda. The copyright for this

book is held by Vedanta Society of St. Louis

and here is the contact information

Vedanta Society of St. Louis

Email: catalog

web: http://www.vedantastl.org

I believe when we post such excerpts

in any private mailing list for

non-commercial purposes copyright owners

will not mind. (The name of book and author

should be mentioned when we post)

As for other postings (discussions and threads

etc.) moderator has already replied.
