Guest guest
Dear Sampathji, Please accept my pranam. I'm happy you have expressed interest in the concept of brahmacharya. If you are a bachelor than brahmacharya means total abstinence from sex, if you are married then it means a regulated sex life. How much regulated will depend upon the agreement reached between the two partners. The sexual urge, according to the Hindu concept, is solely for the purpose of procreation. The couple pray for a good soul to occupy the womb. The act of procreation is preceded by a period of abstinence and prayer. Then at an auspicious time the mating takes place. After conception there is again a period of abstinence till the child is weaned from breast milk. After the influx of western culture the concept of Freud that the sexual urge is the root of all urges and that the repression of this urge leads to psychological problems was unfortunately accepted in India too. However Carl Jung modified this to the urge of pleasure seeking. Sri Krishna says in the Gita that man owns both the urge of pleasure (the lower self) and also the urge for renunciation (the higher self). He urges man to take recourse to the higher self to root out the lower self. It has become very difficult for the younger generation to practice brahmacharya today. This is because of a lack of proper education and also the lack of proper practice of brahmacharya by the previous generation who came under the sway of western culture. Modern medicine with its indiscriminate use of drugs and the virus theory has also compounded the problem. All other major forms of treatment other than modern medicine calls for control over the base urges so that the immune system of the body is built up. Modern research confirms the theory upheld by the ayurvedic theory that man is more than a mere machine. The basis of human life is prana or vital force as it is known in homoeopathy. The physical body of man is only a small part of his existence. He is also composed of mental, emotional, energy and spiritual bodies. A person can remain healthy only if all the five bodies are nurtured properly. Brahmacharya plays a vital role in this. It is also proved that excess of sex deprives a person of the vital mineral selenium. Lack of selenium speeds up the ageing process and leads to impotency at an early age. It is also proved that excess and irregular sex causes fall in sperm count leading to infertility. These researches have only touched the tip of the iceberg, however they are a step in the right direction. Any evil thought or action leads to the formation of toxins in the human body which vitiates the mental and emotional state further. After a continuous abuse of baser tendencies the energy level also drops and the spiritual body too suffers. These toxins are flushed out of the body by the excretory organs. Water aids this process. Please remember that the skin too is an excretory organ and the modern doctors do a hell a lot of harm by treating the toxin secretion process as " infections " . Homoeopathy clearly states that meddling of skin problems leads to chronic diseases and mental degeneration. Both Ayurveda and Homoeopathy recognise that the inability to practice brahmacharya or an excessive sexual urge can upset the whole system and can lead to serious diseases. Any qualified ayurved or homoeopath can study the body constitution and can rectify the excess urge leading to a balanced, productive and saner life. I have the following printed at the back of my visiting card which may be of use to you. VIRUS VACCINATION 1. Desire (Kama) 1. Purity (Pabitrata) 2. Anger (Krodha) 2. Self Control (Atma sanyam) 3. Greed (Lobha) 3. Honesty (Satata) 4. Infatuation (Moha) 4. Renunciation (Tyaga) 5. Ego (Ahankara) 5. Service (Seva) Believe me, it is the above elements that are the real cause of disease. I hope I have clarified your doubts to a certain extent. I am putting this up on the board also so that others too may benefit. Namaskar, Jagannath. Dear Jagannathji, I enjoy reading your postings to the Ramakrishna list. I have a question about one of your emails. >Message: 3 > Tue, 10 Feb 2004 21:05:41 -0800 (PST) > Jagannath Chatterjee >Brahmacharya >Dear Suraj, [....] >The very fact that you are trying to realise God places you within the ambit of the Lords active grace. >For Brahmacharya or celibacy; >1. Take up some physical exercise like Yoga etc. >2. Read positive literature. >3. Avoid exciting food, take plenty of water, don't meddle with skin problems. (The skin eliminates toxins from the body). >4. Mix with like minded souls and avoid bad company. >5. Whenever you see a member of the opposite sex, see your mother/father within him/her. >6. If the problem persists consult an ayurved or a homoeopath. Could you please explain how water helps with Brahmacharya and how an Ayurved can help? Thanks for your time and effort. -- Sampath Finance Tax Center - File online. File on time.
Guest guest
Dear Jagannathji, Thanks for such an enlightening explanation of concept of Bramhacharya! Also the bullets of virus versus vaccination is very interesting. I would also like to add one additional vaccination to viruses of psyche and that is chanting God's Names, as all saints have said that is a powerful medicine! Lord Chaitanya has said that God has infused his divine power in his NAME and chanting his various names would clean up our mind and heart!. Thakur has mentioned that if one practises chanting names and singing prayers then the senses automatically surrender. Pranams, Sriram.
