Guest guest
Respected Krishnaswamiji, Please accept my pranam. Your question (yes, I consider the both to be one) is an interesting one. The mention of four gates may confuse many if we take it in the physical sense. However they function as one as the gates of our body function in unison and for a common purpose though they may serve different needs. As I have said that Sage Vasistha clearly states that practice of even a single virtue, out of the four, sincerely, will attract the other three. What is the basis of this statement? Let us take self control. Why should a person practice self control ? It may be to preserve his body and increase the lifespan. Does this lead to liberation? Nobody would think so. But what is the end product of self control? It is purity and stillness of the mind. The pure mind itself begins the path of self enquiry. Sri Ramakrishna says that the truth reflects by itself in a pure mind and intellect. So this leads to liberation. It also leads to contentment as the liberated soul desires nothing. And then again the saints gather around a liberated person as bees flutter around a flower, so we have satsanga thrown in as a good measure. The cycle is complete isn't it? Pranams again, Jagannath. Guest guest
Om Sivaya, I would see Ahimsa, as an important key to self control. Love, Kanda
