Guest guest
Dear Friends, Some of our revered group members have wanted to know how to achieve purity. I am very pleased to say that their letters reflect an acute and sincere yearning to achieve this coveted quality. A study of purity is very essential for the lovers of Thakur as he was " pabitrataswarupaya " , the embodiment of Purity. I realise and experience the difficulties that lie on the path. We are what we accept from this world through our senses and I'm afraid that the present state of the world is not very conducive to purity. And on top of that we have our own prarabdha. The task is very difficult indeed. We have to first of all understant that the body and mind are wholely connected and not just partially as modern science would have us believe. The body is a product of the mind but it can also affect it. So we have to put both in order simultaneously. We must have noticed that at certain times we have a fleeting glimpse of purity; 1. After taking a cold bath. 2. While conducting our Puja 3. While serving others 4. While in the company of saints 5. While in the precincts of a temple 6. While reading the scriptures So let us do the above a bit more consciously. While taking a bath let us assume that we are bathing in the ganges and that the water is washing away our sins. We can also assume that our Ishta Devata is pouring holy water on us and lovingly cleansing our sins. Let us wear clean clothes and carry ourselves well for we are always in presence of the Lord. In our Puja let us think that a divine light is flowing into our body from above and permeating every nook and corner of our body. Let this feeling remain till the time the effects of the worship stay with us. Serving others is not so difficult. As scouts we were taught to do a good deed everyday. We can also transform our daily work into service by following of the Gita and doing nishkama service. Let us remember God before starting our work and at the end let us report to God as a servant does while working for his master. The company of the sadhus of the Mission is always a purifying experience. Let us devote some time every week to be in their presence. If they are not available let us listen to some taped discourses and feel their presence. Let us also visit a place of worship every week. While studying the scriptures we should remember that a portion of the supreme is always present wherever and whenever a scripture is being read or discussed. Let us consciously feel his presence. In the Patanjali Yoga Sutras we have a whole lot of instructions but one towards the end takes the cake. It says that all the efforts are realised if one can constantly remember an avatar. So let us always keep Thakur in front of us. His photo that we worship has been blessed and worshipped by Thakur himself. There is no power on earth which can prevent us from being pure if we keep Thakur in our hearts. Medically, taking Tulsi, Bael leaves, Neem and Triphala everyday is a good practice. For those addicted to smoking and leading stressful lives a dose of Nux Vomica 200 taken every week at night for some weeks does help (Ladies should avoid this during those days). The homoeopaths also use the Bach Flower Remedy " Crab Apple " to effectively treat those who feel unclean in body and mind. Regards, Jagannath.
