Excerpt from the book

Vivekananda - East meets West

by Swami Chetanananda

************************************************************************

Sometimes (Swamiji) was in a prophetic mood, as on the

day when he startled us by saying, " The next great upheaval

which is to bring about a new epoch will come from Russia or China.

I can't quite see which, but it will either be Russia or China " .

This he said thirty two years ago, when China was still under the

autocratic rule of the Manchu emperors, from which there was no prospect

of release for centuries to come, and when Czarist Russia was sending

the noblest of her people to the Siberian mines. To the ordinary thinker

those two countries seemed the most unlikely nations in the world to usher

in a new era.

Later he said, " Europe is on the edge of a volcano.

Unless the fires are extinguished by a flood of spirituality

it will blow up. " This of Europe in 1895, when it was

prosperous and at peace. Twenty years later came the explosion!

Note:

I remember a quote from Swamiji that he foretold

that " a hundred years from now

India will regain its lost glory " .(exact words may differ)

I request any list member to post that quote or incident

or any prophesy on India.
