Guest guest
Pranams to all, Is it necessary that we should count while doing Japa. If I count , My concentration goes towards the numbers not on God. Why don't i do japa with out counting , so that i can do it as long as i can. Shall i do japa at any time??? Pranams to all Ramanujam.
Guest guest
Pranaam I feel, it is not necessary to count while doing japa. I shall further say that you should never do that. Because japa is a process which is supposed to happen even unknowingly from us (Sahaja Karma), just as we breathe. You can do Japa any time, rather you should do it all the time. Guest guest
dear sir, As far as my myopic knowledge goes to remember God nothing is necessary but for a human being it is difficult to tame his ever wavering mind at one place, so the system of counting. Once a full mala or rosary of 108 counts is completed the mind comes to a higher platform and there is no need to consciously settle the mind. Now one is free to not to count as the need ceases.Actually now one starts meditating. mamta .. - ramarulez Ramakrishna Monday, April 19, 2004 7:23 AM [sri Ramakrishna] question on doing japa Sri Ramakrishnaya Namah Vivekananda Centre London http://www.vivekananda.co.uk . Guest guest
Dear Ramanujam, I too felt that my mind was distracted by counting while doing japam. I asked Swami Medhasanandaji whether I could stop counting, and he advised me to continue counting. Then I asked him if I could stop counting after one round of 108, but he again advised me to continue counting. He also said that Japa could be done anytime. And that when we are doing Japa at times other than the morning and evening Japa (sitting in the shrine), we could do it without counting. Maybe this advice varies from person to person. Please confirm from your Guruji. Best wishes, Ashish Photos: High-quality 4x6 digital prints for 25¢ ph/print_splash
