Dear Esther,

I'm grateful for the concern you've shown and the effort in contacting

Ms Bhavatharini. I'm currently putting into practice some of her

suggestions.........i've started reading about Sri Ramakrishna on the net as

well as trying to get some books on His teachings. I dont have any Guru as

yet, but at this point in time His teachings are definitely a source of

peace and comfort to me. I know the benefits of a support group, but as i'm

a student time and distance is a big factor. My beloved mother is coping in

her own way..........she is involved in a support group , but at times as i

said the situation is not always easy; especially when devastating news

comes back from the CTscan /blood reports, and i know it's from family

members whom she needs the utmost love and support to fight on; and not give

up on life. She has tremendous will power and inner strength, i feel its me

that's sometimes crumbling under difficult times. From the group discussions

here i'm learning a lot not only about Sri Ramakrishna but on Hinduism in

general..........its being a real help in giving me the inner strength which

i was definitely lacking.

Once again, thank you . I wish Ms Bhavatarini wasnt living so far

away or i would have personally gone to see her( I live in Asia). I've yet

to meet someone like her who has dedicated her life in helping to make a

real difference......making it easier and happier for those who need it

most.

Dear Prema,

You are most welcome and I wish you and your mother all strength! I

was very moved by your call for help. If you wish to correspond

further, I will post my email at the bottom of this reply (and

conceivably I could forward your reply to Bhavatarini Ma).

My father's " death " was an important catalyst in my own life, an

early wake-up call. I didn't see it at the time (although I was

already 33 years old). However, my father--an unreligious man who

had no concept of the God as Mother--declared from a coma that " God

is a Woman. " In retrospect, that was quite amazing because it was so

unexpected, and comforting, knowing that he was experiencing

something very profound. This brush with mortality has already begun

to accellerate your own spiritual path. Being a cancer patint has

shown me that the pursuit of spiritual realization is the only way to

deal with our existence. The more one identifies with the Self, the

less the body matters. . . .

In addition to the Vedanta literature, I feel the book by Stephen

Levine called Who Dies? will offer very practical advice from a

spiritual perspective. He also has another great book called A Year

to Live which can help anyone help put their priorities straight.

You should be able to find these on the internet.

I would also refer you to the website called www.SRV.org for some

good information on Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother, and Sw.

Vivekananda. (there is a link from the uk viviekananda site to SRV)

On the SRV site you can find several references to books, among them

Sri Sarada Vignanagita, an inspiring collection of sayings by Holy

Mother, including beautiful photos. Also there are some very

uplifting recordings which might help your family. You could write to

SRV for additional guidance, which from my experience, will be

genuine and very helpful.

Lastly, where do you live? Perhaps we can help you find a Vedanta

group in your part of the world.

Thank you for allowing me to offer my suggestions,
