Guest guest
Greetings: RD & Jagannath have laid the foundation for a lively discussion. My initial reaction is to share some wisdom from the Holy Bible: " 'Meaningless! Meaningless!' says the Teacher. 'Everything is meaningless!' " Ecclesiastes 12:8 In other words, don't take Maya too seriously -- it's only a dream! " Who is like the wise man? Who knows the explanation of things? Wisdom brightens a man's face and changes its hard appearance. " Ecclesiastes 8:1 Even though we may not have yet achieved Self-Realization, we have achieved knowledge. Intellectually, we know what is Real (the Eternal) and what is unreal (the temporal). On top of that, Ramakrishna has showed us our true nature - Bliss. All this knowledge should bring us nothing but optimism. Though our worldly life may be falling apart, why fret -- it's all meaningless. Guest guest
Greetings I loved RD's original post. My sentiments exactly! The US myth is pure HELL! But what is the solution? Should one forsake all and follow the divine? A good answer for me, but what if everybody did that? Is there not a need for workers, producers/farmers,administrators/protectors? We can't all become priests to guide others to the " perfect " light. We would not recognize heaven if it weren't for hell. Guest guest
I want to add some thing to Stephen's post. we all should remember that Hinduism values the four paths of life: Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. So if you are a full feldged Sanyasin, great. Otherwise, if you are following the wordly paths such as Artha , Kama and then take up Sanyasa, which is a mental attitude of renunciation, it is okay too. Hinduism recognizes that it is not possible for everyone to be a true sanyasin and thereofre it encourages people to study scriptures, make a livelihood, get married, raise a family, but requires that while we do all these things, pursue life with an attitude of detachment- Karma Yoga, so that our efforts to realize God will be easier. A detached person is very mature and views every thing in life with the right attitude. He/she will never rise like the ocean at a high tide, nor wil he be depressed when failure strikes him/her. I nother words, such people are Sthitaprajnas, as described in Bhagvadgita. Does eveyone remember reading about Krishna's description of a Sthitaprajna in the Bhavadgita? It should be possible to attain/realize GOd whether you are single, married, priest, non-priest, attroney, engineer or whatever. Do you agree? --- Stephen <bummer1962 wrote: > > > > > > Photos: High-quality 4x6 digital prints for > 25¢ > ph/print_splash > > > > Sri Ramakrishnaya Namah > Vivekananda Centre London > http://www.vivekananda.co.uk >
