Guest guest
Dear Stephen, Materialism and worldliness have ever been with us. The Upanishads told us a very very long time ago that the senses were made to go outward -- and out they go, until we grab the reins and pull them slowly, stalwartly, inward. Taking a deep breath and jumping off a high cliff of renunciation is not necessary, and most of us don't know how to fly if we did. What is necessary for a spiritual aspirant is to cover all those jobs we do with God, however each person may do it (and as Swamiji said, there are as many ways as there are individuals). Anger at what is going on around us must subside into conscious positive movement inward. The others who are enjoying the madness will continue to enjoy it. That is Mahamaya.
