Sharing our experiences in London

On Saturday we were invited to meet Pramukh-Swamimaharaj, the head

of the BAPS Swaminarayan movement at the Neasden Temple in London.

When the Secretary Maharaj of the RK order was in London we had taken

him to meet the Mahant there.

Swami Vivekananda had commented on the need for Hindus to learn

to organise themselves. He was very scathing in his comments on how

even three Hindus cannot work together without falling out.

This movement and what we have seen of its work in London stands out

as an outstanding example of how Hindus can work together in a very

dedicated and disciplined manner and present a truly wholesome

face of Hinduism to the outside world. The present issue of " Hinduism

Today " has done an article on the work of the Swaminarayan movement.

When the Secretary Maharaj of RK movement was at the temple he

was taken to the main assembly hall and asked to address 300 or so

English children seating there. Every day the temple talks to such number

of Western youth visiting the temple and coming into contact with Hinduism.

We have nothing but the highest praise for this temple and all its devotees.

Very special tribute must be paid to AtmaswarupSwami the head of this

temple. It is his dynamism that has made this temple what it is - though he

would disagree and say that all this is by the grace of his guru.
