Dear List:

I am uplifted by the commentary!

1) Krishna: What a wonderful project OMkar sounds like! Is someone actively

trying to expand it to other universities? Do you know if there is a chapter at

my local university (U. of Las Vegas, Nevada)? As jay (and Ramakrishna) knows,

those are the hearts and minds that need to be 'won over' - the youth! (In the

early 1970's in the USA, a strong and successful Christian movement occurred

within universities.) I can envision a wonderful, interfaith 'movement' built

around OMkar.

2) Krishna: I'm sorry to hear about the autonomic/ritualistic spiritual

services. I recently joined the Roman Catholic church (because no Vedanta

Society, etc., in my locality), which has been criticized for its great amount

of ritual. the local Priest, however, does a wonderful job of bringing 'life

and meaning' to the ritual. Also, as you point out, at least the ritual and

singing is done together, as a group.

3) RD: It's sad and amusing to hear about your experience in Japan (we have

another List member in Japan -- any comment?). It reminds me of the time when an

American Jew who has family in Israel informed me that 85% of Israelis are

" secular. " I could have 'dropped my drawers'! A nation with the most profound

spiritual history --Abraham, Moses, David, etc.,-- and most (apparently) don't

give a darn! What they (apparently) care about is their ethnicity. Ahhhh, Maya!

It makes me want to ask another question of the List: What country do you want

to be born into during your next life? (My answer: I don't care which country or

ethnicity, as long as my parents are devotees of Truth.)

4) ramasamy: I sure like to believe that more Americans are going inwards,

thanks to the many wonderful Eastern teachers who have graced our shores over

the past 108 years. But . . . I don't know. The " god " of our society is

" consumption " - - which is why I call America: The Maya Machine.

5) ramasamy: Good point on India as a " compressed spring. " Let's just pray that

it will find its balance -- and, once again, be a world leader of both milk . .

.. and Honey!

As the Master would counsel us: " It's all in Mother's hands. " But, it sure is

fun to fret over!

Jai Ramakrishna!

Brad
