Guest guest
Dear Friends, The mind is indeed difficult to control. The spiritual aspirants should in the beginning try to ignore the mind and concentrate instead on the core of ones heart. This is around four fingers above the solar plexus, or where the chest bone begins above the abdomen. This is the place of the Anahata chakra. This chakra is the meeting point of ones spiritual aspirations and the descent of the divine grace. The diagram is that of a star composed of two opposite facing triangles, the triangle facing up denotes the aspiration and the triangle facing down signifies the descent. The common ground, covered by both the triangles, is where peace reigns, i.e. where the aspiration is answered by the divine grace. Concentrating on this spot brings mental peace and spiritual joy. Only the sahasrara or the imaginary lotus on the head can give more pleasure to the spiritual seeker. But meditation on the sahasrara is frought with danger and is forbidden for the novice. How to reach the core of ones heart? This requires that you place your ishta devata (imagine a figure resplendant with light and smiling graciously) on this spot and concentrate there while you do japa. Remember, in the beginning give more importance to japa than to meditation. Japa in itself has the capacity to give the fruits of meditation. You will observe as you sincerely practice that doing japa one forgets oneself and also looses the sense of time. This self absorption is the best form of meditation for those who find it difficult to still their minds. Finding peace in the core of ones heart is not limited to japa. For this chakra to become active one has to follow certain spiritual disciplines; 1. Being true to ones conscience. 2. Being compassionate in thoughts words and deeds. 3. Earning ones income ethically, being honest in all respects. 4. Not to yield to baser passions like lust, greed etc. 5. Not to think of the past or the future and concentrating on the present. 6. Not to indulge in idle talk and otherwise fritter away ones energies. 7. Pray to God to reduce your workload so that you can devote more time to japa. Before starting your japa, imagine that the world has disappeared, it simply does not exist. Imagine also that you are dead for the world. Forget everything and dive deep into the core of the heart. Do not bother with the mind. After finishing your spiritual practices allow some time to elapse before resuming your secular activities. Do japa mentally whenever you have some time, while travelling, doing routine jobs etc. Imagine that you are wearing a contact lens with the figure of Thakur etched on it. And remember that the Holy Mother has said, " Japat Siddhi " i.e. everything is attained by doing japa sincerely. God Bless, Jagannath.
