Guest guest
I feel that sikhism being a offshoot of the bhakti movement (led by kabir, namdev, tukaram etc) culminating in the sikh religion always had its proponents preach that leading a householder's life facing all its battles without running away is the way. You will see this tone in Kabir's poems. He emphasized leading a life in the world and being not attached to it. Now this is the very same ideal which Sri Ramakrishna asked us to live. But his methods of achieving it were very different and did tally with what we read in the Upanishads. When we talk of sex its just not the loss of semen which is the obstructing factor. The tremendous nervous impact it has and also the nerve titillations that it produces make us feel that there when there is so much joy in it, so whats the case to move on to something higher. This is said so acutely in the case of devas, their senses are so subtle and given to so much enjoyment that they simply cannot stop enjoying. That is why Prajapati says self control is for the devas. I have read that the energy release occuring during the sexual act is the obstruction and not the physical part of emmission which seems very appropriate. The energy released is a very concentrated form of energy which when directed to any endeavor will bring the best results forth. In a way you could say that we use our best energies to have sex. We can thus appropriately label the sex energy as the creative energy. This creative energy is the basis with which we do all our work but the maximum and the best energy is spent in the creative act. Now when we desire for any higher development it is this self same creative energy which is given a higher turn. When we practise celibacy even for a short time , a young youth can easily see how detached his body is from his lower self. From such detachment from the body all virtues proceed and indeed detachment from the body is the root of all dharma. Concessions can be made to people who are not upto the ideal but making the concession the ideal is most dangerous. The best man/woman is wherein the body is under the total control of his intellect and his senses are fully in control. This person is the ideal to strive for. This person is fit for real religion. Until then rest is practise. As long as a person has the sex idea let him concede that he is short of the ideal and not drag the ideal to his viewpoint. So as stated above a woman though having no emissions has the tremendous nervous excitment and release which is the real obstructions. This release/excitment phenomenon attaches us to the body. Of course once attached to the body all evils proceed from here.I will quote verse 145 of the vivekachudamani to this effect. " Of the tree of Samsara ignorance is the seed, the identification with the body is its sprout, attachment its tender leaves, work its water, the body its trunk, the vital forces its branches, the organs its twigs, the sense-objects its flowers, various miseries due to diverse works are its fruits, and the individual soul is the bird on it. " The identification with the body the main causes for our suffering. How then can we reconcile a physical relationship (whatever name you give) to be permissible at the highest level of religion ? The sex problem which is so predominant everywhere now can be curbed by following and putting forth the ideal of the householders life. To this effect the founder of some of the faiths were really insightful. They saw that in a family with love and wherein the husband and wife are chaste towards one another is indeed the place for virtue to blossom and spread out. The householder by his upright life and loving committment to his family and society ennobles himself and the people surrounding him. However this is an intermediate and an almost compulsory step for most people ( People who are bachelors and sannyasins must have also passed through this step in some previous life) for a training in higher life. Once we go through the householder dharma properly we become fit for higher religion. Higher religion of course demands your everything. Those who can live upto the challenge of higher religion must do so and those who cant must enter family life, the fire and duties of which purify us for higher things. Guest guest
Om Namah Sivaya Importance of preserving Sex Energy according to a great ancient Rishi Tirumular who composed Tirumantiram 3000 years ago. Tirumantiram : verse 1947 Conservation of Sex Energy Vital for Yoga Practice Thus conserved, they light the Fire of Kundalini, And forcing it upward through Nadi Sushumna Reach the state of illumination; There they partake of ambrosia (divine nectar) From the moon within flows; Those who do this in unbroken continuity, Are verily Siva Yogins true. Comments: Thus by conserving the sex energy, the yogis light the fire of kundalini, and coursing it upward through the sushumna nadi they reach the state of illumination. Siva yogins are they indeed who continuously partake of the ambrosia flowing from the moon in the mystic sphere within. Tirumantiram : Verse 1949 Conserve Sex Energy and Become Heroes The Yogi, the Jnani, and the Siddha high The Bhoga Yogi who is yet the king of Jnanis, All these, through troubled by passions Yet savour the ambrosia within; (in a Yogic way) Heroes, all, they are indeed, Who the Bindu had conserved. Comments: The yogi, the jnani, and siddhar high and the bhoga-high, who is yet the king of jnanis, are real heroes; because, though they were troubled and tempted by passions, they resolved to taste the ambrosia within in the yogic way. Tirumantiram : Verse 1953 Lust is Death’s Messenger If you hold Sex as Death’s messengers, Love’s passion vanishes away; Death there is none; For ages innumerable will you in Divine Light be, Your Impurities forever totally rid.
