Guest guest
In a country of over one billion people, who has the right to talk about celibacy? A few Yogis in a country of over one billion people doesn't give you the right to preach to countries whose population increase is due mainly to immigration (from those countries that don't practice birth control, like India). The ideal and the reality are very different. False perception leads to delusion. Guest guest
Dear Richard These comments are uncalled for. The reason why the poorer nations produce more children is because that is the only insurance these people have for support in their old-age. This has nothing to do with the topic under discussion:- Celibacy & Spirituality.......jay - " R D " <jaguarxox Re: [sri Ramakrishna] Re: Celibacy and the Populaton Explosion of India > In a country of over one billion people, who has the right to talk about celibacy? >A few Yogis in a country of over one billion people doesn't give you the right >to preach......................<snip>
Guest guest
Dear Jay Most have sex because it feels good, not for intellectual/practical considerations. I think the point is being missed. It is not sex we must overcome, it is lust, the nature of the mind to cling to pleasant sensations. Shankara said that lust is the gateway to hell, and when Ramakrishna refered repeatedly to “woman and gold” as our downfall “woman” actually translates better as “lust”. Having highly pleasurable sex without complete dispassion creates intense mental waves which come back as intense desires to re-experience the sensations. And the mind falls down and down. The scriptures say the most difficult attachement to get past is taste, Swami Brahmananda said the same thing, it is the second chakra. Guest guest
Jay, My apologies. I wasn't being very sensitive or compassionate. I'm sorry if I hurt anybody's feelings. My father always said, " If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. " I need to learn this.
