Guest guest
Namaste Brad, Keeping track of multiple repetitions beyond 108, move 1 small stone or rudraksha bead for each 108 from a known starting amount to a new pile. Guest guest
Greetings: Reading about the effectiveness of Purashcharana in John Yale's (Swami Vidyatananda) " The Making of a Devotee, " where japam is performed from 1,000 Repetitions/day to 15,000 reps/day in accordance with the phases of the moon got me wondering - - how does one keep track of such large numbers? (I understand the mala allows one to keep track of 108 repetitions). Thank You! Brad
Guest guest
If you have to do 1000 repetitions a day just divide 1000 by 108. Which means about 10 malas a day. You can keep 10 rice grains(or any thing else) for counting malas. When you complete 1 mala keep aside 1 rice grain and so on. Same way you can calculate for any number of reptitions (15000/108=No of mala's) Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hello Brad, I think we need to take care when going for such large repititions/day. Swami Vidyatmananda was acting under the guidance of his guru. regards, --Sunil > " Brad Stephan " <brad >Ramakrishna > " The Ramakrishna List " <ramakrishna > >[sri Ramakrishna] Purashcharana >Wed, 26 May 2004 07:52:56 -0700 > >Greetings: > >Reading about the effectiveness of Purashcharana in John Yale's (Swami >Vidyatananda) " The Making of a Devotee, " where japam is performed from >1,000 Repetitions/day to 15,000 reps/day in accordance with the phases of >the moon got me wondering - - how does one keep track of such large >numbers? Guest guest
I feel that it is not the number of repitions but the way we meditate that is important for spiritual progress. If we focus on how many times we repeat the mantra, then we cant focus on God. --- " Sunil V.
