Guest guest
Greetings: The following passage is from John Yale's (Swami Vidyatananda) " The Making of a Devotee " (published: 1993). I thought it might provoke some interesting discussion on whether Vedanta and/or the Ramakrishna Movement is growing in the West. If not, why - - and, what could/should be done? " A faithful Vedantist living in New York wrote me recently: " The centers here do not seem to be thriving, although Indians seem to abound. I responded to a letter from Y just last week in which he was reporting the same trend in Chicago. Vedanta does not seem to be attracting American newcomers... " Jai Ramakrishna! Guest guest
In the U.S.A., presently there are about 2.3 million Indians. There are fairly big Hindu Temples inmost major cities that attract thousands of people. Sai Baba Mission, Chinmaya Mission, Dayananda Saraswathi mission,Internatinal Society for Krishna Consciousnesss etc. are thriving very well. A lot of Hinduism -related activities such as seminars, workshops on scriptures, worship, prayer, meditation, special celebrations, etc. are going on here and the activities are conducted in a large scale. There are summer camps to learn Hinduism both for adults and children. Many of us are very busy with these activities. What I have noticed here is that Ramakrishna Mission keeps a low profile and most of the peope I know dont even know about its existence in the USA. If they come out and do a little publicity, people will understand abut the mission. --- Brad Stephan <brad wrote: > Greetings: > > The following passage is from John Yale's (Swami > Vidyatananda) " The Making of a Devotee " (published: > 1993).
