When an avadhoot comes, like Swami Ji, their mind is so established in samadhi that special pains have to be taken to keep them in the body. I’m sure you remember that Sri Ramakrishna prayed to the Divine Mother as soon as He knew of Naren’s incarnation to wrap him in maya so his mind would not fly off. It’s this maya we see in their doubts and habits. Twice Swami Ji had the experience of union, the first Sri Ramakrishna gave by touch and then brought him back saying he would not have it again till later and He would keep the key. The second time was around a lake in Michigan as Swami Ji sat and Swami Ji stated he had no memory of what occurred after the body sense was gone. This is a form of special grace that keeps those realized ones who come back to help us here.
