Dear Suresh,

Also, the contention that is it wise to follow people

with contradicting visions and experiences is not

right. The visions and experiences need not

necessarily be same but the underlying principle is

same. What Lord Jesus said as " Blessed are those for

they shall see God " has been told by Sri Krishna in

Bhagavad Gita too or eleswhere in Vedas/Upanishads.

And the vision and experiences of Lord Jesus, Sri

Krishna and rishis at different places and in

different eras need not be same but, their teachings

are however same.

As a counter example to this query we can say the

almost the whole Human race " sees " a mirage in a

particular area in a desert, does that mean one who

actually " knows " that there is no water there is

wrong??

Religion need not and should not have dogmas. A

religion like that will suit only people of particular

temparament and at a certain level of evolution.

Hinduism has different paths and means to attain

perfection which can be suitably taken by individuals

based on his/her temperament. For eg. In Mathematics

sometimes a single problem can be solved in multiple

ways and each individual is " comfortable " in solving

it in his/her way. Also another common example told is

the summit of a mountain can be reached through

various paths.

Regarding Islam's dogmatic principles, thats actually

a problem. Sufism and mysticism is not accepted in

Islam, which is actually the bane. Sufi saints have

experienced that Truth and as the case usual is, their

experiences are different from Prophet Mohammed and

hence they are not accepted. But, their underlying

principle is same as that of Prophet's.

The Sharia law which deals with social living is

obsolete now. as someone already mentioned, Sharia

lawa is valid for thos times when Prophet was living

and now times ave changed and hence the social order

and laws got to change to make people conducive for

spirituaal growth in tune with the existing

environment.

In Hinduism, the Smritis that deal with social living

are constantly updated keeping in view with the

current conditions of society. They bring out ways to

live in a society so that environment is conducive for

spiritual growth. Hence there is no dogmatism about

it. The Srutis that deals with spiriutality are quite

valid for any time. Although the spiritual principles

in Srutis itself are very different like dualism,

non-dualism etc, the ultimate experience of seeing God

everywhere and everytime is unique and one needs to be

dogmatic about it. If our experiences are not

necessarily in agreement with that ultimate principle

it means we have to evolve ourselves.

My suggestion: It is good to probe different religions

and paths for sometime initally but one should not

really get stuck in it for the whole life. Dive into

something deep and collect the pearls from the bed of

the ocean, Thakur used to say. Begin the ascent of the

mountain after choosing the trail. The summit is same

anyway (which I dont know yet, but thats what is

said).

Pranam,

Srikanth
