Guest guest
Dear Friends, Let none of you remain under the false impression that Hinduism is shown in a positive light in the Indian media. Almost all newspapers and the TV in general equate Hinduism with superstitions, retrograde thinking and worse. If a spiritual leader gives an ennobling speech or does something good it is never reported. But let a self confessed tantric sacrifice a human life and the news is everywhere. Not only the news but also discussions follow for days on how Hinduism (?) is hurting the country and not allowing it to develop. As if the politicians are innocent babes all tied up in the maze of Hinduism which has to be removed before development may take place in this country. The other day there was a communist leader all fired up on TV because the previous NDA Govt had decided to teach the Vedas and the Upanishads in schools. He reflected on how such a 'backward' step would have ruined whole generations and pushed India back to those " barbaric days " ! We were all too stunned to react. The rationilists are even worse. They even target ayurveda because of its Hindu roots. The recent decision of a State Govt here to open ayurvedic clinics in rural areas is still making ripples everywhere. The newspapers wonder aloud at how " those ancient Hindu quacks " could tackle diseases like Kala Azar! They forget that the name " Kala Azar " was given by those " ancient Hindu quacks " and that ayurveda has treated the disease aeons before modern medicine was born. The current trend in modern Indian media is that all evils stem from Hinduism and that " science " would ultimately prove all Hindu theories wrong so that the masses no longer suffer from " ignorance " .
