Dear Friends,

Many of you are aware of this but still I wanted to reiterate that it is widely

believed in the Sri Ramakrishna circle that Revered Swami Sivanadaji Maharaj, or

Mahapurush Maharaj, was the reincarnation of Ananda, one of the foremost

disciples of Lord Buddha.

Mahapurush Maharaj himself hinted at this when he once remarked, " This soul had

last come almost 3000 years back at the time of the Buddha " .

Once a very learned Pundit had come to visit Mahapurush Maharaj at a very odd

time when Revered Maharaj was taking rest. So the Pundit was asked to wait. He

made an unusual request that he may be allowed to sit at the feet of the

reclining Swamiji. He was allowed to do so. Actually this Pundit was adept at

reading the signs of the soles of the feet. He too predicted, among other

things, that Mahapurush Maharaj had been a close associate of the Buddha. He

also predicted that Maharaj was a realised soul.

That Ananda had indeed attained Arhatship is confirmed by the statement of Sri

Ramakrishna on Mahapurush Maharaj that " He is from a very lofted state where

there is no trace of name and form " . This clearly denotes the state of Nirvana

and proves that Maharaj had come to this world on his own accord to help

mankind. Maharaj's meditative practices and also his intensely absorbed state

also points towards mastery over Buddhistic forms of meditation.

Regards,

Jagannath.
