Guest guest
Can anyone direct me to a book on the life of Sarat Chandra Chakravorty, the person who recorded Talks with Swami Vivekananda? What happened to him after Swamiji's passing? Did he himself become a monk? Did he write any more books? i would be grateful if anyone can shed any little light.thanks _______________ STOP MORE SPAM with the MSN Premium and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-ca & page=byoa/prem & xAPID=1994 & DI=1034 & SU=http://\ hotmail.com/enca & HL=Market_MSNIS_Taglines
Guest guest
Jairam, While I have not seen any book on the life of Shri Chakravorty, his reminiscences of Swamiji are available online at http://www.vivekananda.net/reminisces/conversations/Disciple24/index.php On Sat, 17 Jul 2004 15:03:14 -0400, jairam seshadri <jairamseshadri wrote: > > Can anyone direct me to a book on the life of Sarat Chandra Chakravorty, the > person who recorded Talks with Swami Vivekananda? Guest guest
Regarding the request for information on Sarat Chandra Charavorty (Swami Saradananda): There is a beautiful biography written by Swami Aseshananda, a disciple of Holy Mother. Swami Aseshananda served Swami Saradananda for many years before becoming the head of the Portland Vedanta Center. I suggest you contact the Vedanta Center in Portland for his book Glimpses of a Great Soul. ew

Guest guest
Namaste, This name-sake was Swami Vivekananda's brother-disciple. The other one was Sw. V.'s disciple, and a Professor of Sanskrit. Guest guest
Hello, Pranams. Swami Saradanandaji Mhj was not Sarat Chandra Chakravarty. Sarat Chandra was a disciple of Swami Vivekananda. Chhaya Banerji Publisher: Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, India. He did become a monk and took the name Swami Shuddhananda. Under this name, there are numerous references to his work in Swami Gambhirananda's book, History of the Math and Mission. Sarat Chandra wrote the great hymn - mUrtamaheshvara... - on Swamiji. [swamiji initiated him in the mantra, and Sw. Niranjanananda into sanyasa.] Regards, Sunder

This was an unfortunate error in my reading the referenced pages. Actually it was Sudhir Chandra Chakravari who became Sw. Shuddhananda, and not Sarat Chandra. Sarat Chandra was a disciple of Sw.V. and wrote the descriptions of his stay in India after his return from the West. These were originally in Bengali, and the English translations appear in the Complete Works. http://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info/vivekananda/volume_6/conversations_and_di\ alogues/conversations_and_dialogues_contents.htm
Guest guest
as always thank you Sunder, even tho i have gone through the two volumes, it was some time ago and i did not remember the references. i was keen to know because if ever there was anyone on written record (albeit by SCC himself) of the Swamiji urging anyone to become a monk in so direct and heart rending an appeal it was SCC! thanks again ----Original Message Follows---- " Sunder Hattangadi " <sunderh Ramakrishna Ramakrishna Re: [sri Ramakrishna] RE: sarat chandra chakravarty Tue, 20 Jul 2004 11:09:54 -0000 Ramakrishna , " Sunder Hattangadi " <sunderh@h...> wrote: > > Regarding the request for information on Sarat Chandra Charavorty > > (Swami Saradananda): Namaste, Biography of Swami Vivekananda by his Eastern & Western Disciples, Vol.II, has many references to his disciple, Sarat Chandra Chakravorty.
