Swamiji's ancestral house.

Dear Friends,

 

It has been declared by Belur Math that Swamiji's ancestral house at Shimla,

Kolkata has been restored by the Ramakrishna Math & Mission with help from the

Govt of India. It will be formally inaugurated by Most Revered Swami

Ranganathanandaji Maharaj,President Belur Math, on 26.09.2004 at 9:30 AM.

 

This is the house where;

 

1. Swamiji was born.

2. He worshipped Rama & Sita and also Lord Shiva.

3. He gave his new clothes to a mendicant.

4. He went into deep meditation unaware of a cobra that stood watch over him.

5. His mother realised that the " naughty " Narendra could be controlled by

pouring

water over him while chanting the name of Shiva.

6. He fell from the stairs and broke his head. This incident was later recounted

by Thakur

who said that it was a part of the divine plan to get rid of the excess

energy within

the divine incarnation.

7. Here he lost his father as a result of which he and his family had to undergo

a lot

of hardship.

8. He had a vision of Lord Buddha.

9. He both studied and mastered various musical instruments.

 

The list is hardly complete but it does give a bit of an idea about the

importance of the monument.
