Guest guest
Dear Doctors, I think Venkat's comments, that homoeopathy is not as popular as it deserves to be or that in some parts of the world it is not practised properly indicates that God wants people to suffer, may have some basis. In this connection I would like to recount an incident in the life of Swami Brahmananda, the first President of the Ramakrishna Mission. In his time the famous homoeopath of Bengal Dr M Bhattacharya was very much devoted to the Mission. Unfortunately Dr Bhattacharya's wife passed away untimely leaving the doctor devastated. He was so heartbroken that he wanted to donate his homoeopathic pharmaceutical factory to the Mission and take to the life of a monk. The senior monks of the Order took this request of his and presented it before Swami Brahmananda hoping he would sanction the same and the Mission would have a ready made tool to serve the needy. But Swami Brahmananda flatly refused the order stating that Dr Bhattacharya was suffering from temporary detachment and would regret his decision later. No amount of persuasion by both Dr Bhattacharya and the monks could prevail on the Swami. Years later the personal attendant of the Swami, Swami Apurbananda, asked Brahmanandaji the real reason for his adamant stand on the issue. This was because Swami Apurbananda knew that the Swami was very much interested in homoeopathy and occasionaly practiced it himself with great success. Swami Bramhanandaji's reply was very strange. He said, " You see, every person has to suffer from the consequences of his present action and also his karma, i.e. actions from previous births. Homoeopathy has the power to go against karma, so it cannot be sanctioned! " . What a tremendous compliment this is for homoeopathy coming from a spiritual giant like Swami Brahmananda, considered to the the spiritual heir of Sri Ramakrishna himself ! That karma is a major factor behind many incurable diseases has been acknowledged in a recent book on cancer by one of the famous oncologists of India. The curious thing is that his statement has not sparked off any debate. Another interesting fact is that the Ramakrishna Mission has recently received a huge donation to start a homoeopathic college and hospital by a NRI allopathic physician. I really don't know why the Mission has kept the project in the backburner. Regards, Jagannath. Ps: I am a newcomer to this group so probably I may be chastised for saying this but still I would request all the revered members to kindly delete the tail end of the messages so that the discussion board does not look so clumsy. Often it becomes difficult to discern between the messages and the previous mails.
