Guest guest
The BBC 2 programme this afternoon on 'Religion and War' by Jeremy Vine did not have a Hindu participant. At the last moment they interviewed me on the phone but did not give me a chance to speak for more than a minute, and even this happened after I chased them up to let me contribute. I think they were trying to avoid putting me on air as they seem to have an agenda of focusing on Christian / Muslim issue. They gave me just a few sentences,, but I said what I needed to say. The producer told me (later on) that what I said was very powerful and important. What I said is that the problem arising 'in the name of religion' can only be resolved 'in the name of religion' and Hinduism is the religion that holds the key of resolving this issue of strife in the name of religion. Its inherent teaching of 'Pluralism' .. " many different pathways to the same destination " needs to be incorporated by other religions. Unless the Exclusivist religions take on this message and replace terms like: We must 'tolerate' other religions with the words 'We accept the validity of other religions' the issue will not go away. The term tolerate is demeaning as it means we give permission to others to exist. The problem is not in the Middle East but is closer at home.... The Abrahamic religions do not have the luxury of preaching and promoting exclusivist agendas. regards jay
Guest guest
Jay, Thank you for articulating those Powerful Words for the BBC program. In my opinion those few words would make a tremendous impact to those who are committed to the cause of world peace. Please keep up your excellent work.
