Namaste,

Try “The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna”,

meditation is described endlessly in the scriptures but nowhere better than

here in my opinion.

Om Namah Sivaya

There is a scripture called Tirumantiram composed by

Rishi Tirumular about 3000 years ago.He dedicated a

large number of verses to meditation in great details.

He originally composed it in Tamil. You can find the

English translation in the webpage below:

ASHTANGA YOGAM (Eight Limbs of Yoga)

http://www.himalayanacademy.com/resources/books/tirumantiram/TantraThree.html

However you will find that the method of meditation is

very similar to Patanjali Maharishi, since they both

had the same spiritual Guru, Lord Siva. Rishi

Tirumular was one of eight great Rishis who obtained

direct teachings from Lord Siva in Mount Kailash. They

were Sanatkumara, Sanakar, Sanadanar,

Sananthanar, Sivayogamuni, Patanjali, Vyagrapada and

Tirumular.

The Bhagavad Gita has a chapter on it; Lord Krishna gives precise

steps for meditating.

There is a book of " 112 meditations " . Lord Shiva instructs Devi on

the various meditation techniques. What those 112 techniques are

described in the book " Zen flesh, Zen bones " by Paul Reps (and that

much also is thrilling to read and visualize), but I am sure there

is a more detailed text on them all in the annals of Kashmir

Shaivism.

You did not ask this, but I thought it is better to say this also...

please take up meditation under the supervision of the Guru. The

Guru's Grace will make the meditation a success. For information

purposes only, it's ok to read up on meditation.

Jai Ma!
