Guest guest
hi all, namaste. The bangalore ashrama is celebrating its centenary year. In association with it several programmes have been arranged, in different phases. * Bangalore centre was established by Swami Ramakrishnananda and visited by Swami Brahmananda and Swami Abhedananda. * It has the unique distinction of being the one of the maths where holy mother stayed (Jairambati, Koalpara, Udbodhan and Belur Math are other centres). During her pilgrimage to south India, mother was moved by seeing the devotion of southerners and at Bangalore centre she said " if only i could understand and speak a few words in this language " . Several interesting incidents took place during that period. The rock on which holy mother meditated here is a centre of pilgrimage and is known as " The holy mother's rock " ( Read for morehttp://www.sriramakrishnamath.org/magazine/vk/2004/11-3-3.asp ) * Swami Brahmananda had the vision of Hanuman when the Rama-namavali " shuddha brahma paratpara " was being sung. Thencefourth the song is sung on every Ekadashi at all the centres. * Swami Tyagishanandaji, a great Gandhian was the president of math here. He started the hostel for poor boys " Vidyarthi mandiram " with the first inmate being a harijan. So popular the hostel became that, rich devotees begged swamiji to admit their kids to this hostel. Dr D. M. Nanjundappa (VC of Karnatak university, economist etc) and Dr. H Narasimhayya (Gandhian and VC of Bangalore university) were some of the inmates of this hostel and still participate in the activites of centre. * Swami Yatishwarananda was the president of this centre. Ramakrishna appeared before him and demanded that a temple be built for him. Till then the centre had almost no infrasturcture ! * Swami Chidanandaji, Swami Prabuddhanandaji, Swami Harshanandaji became the subsequent heads of centre. * Next to Belur math, bangalore centre is has highest number of devotees * After Bengal, Karnataka has contributed highest number of monastic members to the order, most of them from Bangalore centre * Along with Mysore centre, Bangalore centre is the chief publishing house of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda-Vedanta literature. All the great poets of Kannada Kuvempu, Bendre etc. were highly influenced by Ramakrishna-Vivekananda. The state anthem of Karnataka includes the name of both Paramahamsa and Vivekananda ! The list goes on... I could only attend the programmes of Saturday and Sunday and thought of sharing these. Excuse me for I have hurridly put these lines. regards, vikas
