Guest guest
Dear List, There is an old story from China about interpreting good vs. bad. It goes something like this: A family once had one horse which escaped and ran away. The neighbors said " Oh, what bad luck you have! " The old man said " Who knows? " Then the horse returned and brought 5 other wild horses with it. The neighbors said " Oh, what good luck you have! " The old man said " Who knows? " Then the son was thrown from one of the wild horses as we was trying to tame it and broke his leg. The neighbors said " Oh, what bad luck you have! " The old man said " Who knows? " Then the army came through the village gathering all the young men to fight a war. The son couldn't go because his leg was broken. The neighbors said " Oh, what good luck you have! " The old man said " Who knows? " And on and on... You see we never really know how to interpret life's events. What appears bad may ultimately be good. What appears good may ultimately be bad. Who knows? If we have faith in God, we try to accept EVERYTHING that happens for our ultimate good. As Jay said, it's also how we respond to events, not the events themselves, that really means something. Also, sometimes blaming " karma " is just the ego not wanting to deal with things. We should try not to be indifferent to others suffering. We can contemplate karma intellectually, but we should let our heart's break open when we see people suffering so much pain and loss. Tears will get us closer to God faster than reading all the scriptures on the planet. Didn't Master say that when you shed tears thinking of God you are very close to Her?
