A question after reading Sri Ramakrishna and His Disciples

In the book "Sri Ramakrishna and His Disciples", I came across the following:

A close relative of Sri Ramakrishna accepts the job of the priest in the temple of Mother Kali. But he was half hearted and does not approve of animal sacrifice (Being a Vaishnavite). Kali Ma appears to him in a dream and says that his son would die becuase of this. After sometime his son actually dies.

My question is why did mother Kali, made the son of the priest die for the fault of the father?
