Guest guest
Hello all, Hinduism to me has always been a philosophical approach to life and eternity rather than blind belief in any matter. In this context, I have always seen God as a unitary being encompassing everything and everything being part of him (as I am sure a lot of Hindus do). Hence I have never been drawn into the theistic aspects of the religion except I must admit an increasing fascination for the beauty and attraction of Krsna, of late. Even in that, I would rather think of Him as an embodiment of the Supreme rather than one of many 'Gods'. Now I do not know what to think of the idea of Gods in Hinduism or rather than the 'devas' or 'shining ones'. If you look at the idea of these Gods, its very much similar to the Greek pantheon of Gods, each of them mostly representing a force of Nature. Do you think these devas were created by people just as representations of that which seemed to come from the heavens like rain, lightning, sun and so on and whom they used to pray to? The idea of the sun god exhausting his good karma and taking birth in a slum is strangely ticklish to my sense of humour. I am sure the good God would have arranged a replacement in the case of such an event happening though What do you think? Guest guest
We can think of Devas as forms of God depending on function. When God creates he is known as Brahma, when he maintains he is called Vishnu and when he destroys he is called shiva. Saket
