Guest guest
Sorry for the off-topic posting - but I thought this was relevant to those involved/interested in education in India. -Girish --------------- GO from Directorate of schools Wed, April 6, 2005 9:46 am <undisclosed receipients> Dear Friends, The Directorate of Schools in Tamilnadu has issued a GO directing all schools to fly the Indian flag half-mast on Friday, 8 April 2005 to mourn the death of Pope John Paul II. Schools have been asked to send a " compliance report " to confirm that they have observed the mourning. One wonders why a secular government should issue GOs to secular government schools and to private religious schools (which are not govt.aided in anyway) to mourn the passing away of a religious head of a foreign religious institution? Will the government declare state mourning if one of the important religious heads of the Hindu, Buddhist or Jain community passes away? Moreover, the average Hindu will find it embarrassing to protest against such compulsory mourning imposed on him for it goes against his natural non-aggressive bent of mind. Is there a dignified way of protesting against this GO or a safe way of non-compliance without inviting the vengeful wrath of the Jayalalitha government as witnessed in the Shankaracharya case? This is yet another illustration of how helpless and discriminated Hindu institutions feel in the present political atmosphere in India. with regards, ..... Guest guest
Maybe this has something to do with the definition of secularism as followed by the secular front of India. Maybe we could limit political discussions to a bare minimum only when they concern the philosophy and preachings of Sri Ramakrisna et.al. btw did the Tamil Nadu govt. announce a holiday too? If yes, that should be a useful holiday for many people. There has always been a feeling in my mind that the coming of Sri Ramakrisna started the wave of freedom movement in India which ultimately led to the freedom of the country. I also feel that the story about an organisation of monks fighting with invaders as told in " Anand Math " by Bankim ch. chatterjee was inspired largely by the whirlwind tour of Swami Vivekananda. What do u say about that? regards, GB Mail - 250MB free storage. Do more. Manage less. http://info.mail./mail_250
