Dear Friends,

As per Sri Ramakrishna, Brahman and Maya are not separate. "The snake coiled up and the snake moving are one and the same", said our Lord. Then why are we deluded by Maya and not established in Brahman ?. Sri Ramana Maharshi had a very interesting observation here; he said, "The jiva is never deluded". I think he meant that essentially we are all established in Brahman only we do not always realise it. Hence the need for spiritual exercises, self enquiry, Guru, whatever way you put it.

The Mother of Pondicherry said, "Step back!!". If you do not participate and just be aware and observe you are automatically established in Brahman. If you are a believer in destiny then just sit back and relax. If you believe in self effort then offer all your good actions to the Lord.

I had long back read an article in the Readers Digest about a lady who survived a plane crash. When the plane had caught fire and she watched the flame proceeding rapidly towards her she felt a strange calm descending on her instead of the fear she expected. This shows that in that instant of crisis she had found herself settled in Brahman.

Regards,

Jagannath.

Mother's observation reminds me of what they say in

Zen:

Practice (zazen) is enlightenment

Enlightenment is practice

Peace to all,

RD
