Guest guest
Only great ones such as Ramakrishna can say all religions lead to God. One must keep in mind that this truth is on the highest or mystical level. In practice in the every day world of nationalism, racism and politics, fear-based, dogmatic religions of control, conformity and self-righteousness are institutionalized in every region. In fact, most of the major religions have historically persecuted the mystics in their own traditions. In truth, religion has been a source of great strife in humanity’s miserable history. Most religions in fact have shamefully violent and destructive histories that are politely seldom openly discussed. Speaking as a westerner, this is true of those sister religions of middle-eastern origin: Judaism with its concept of “the chosen people” and Judaism’s violent daughters, Islam and Christianity, both which teach exclusive salvation only for believers. Even at this very hour there is bloodshed between Jews and Muslim, Christians and Muslims and Muslims among their sects and Christians against Christians in Northern Ireland. The world tragedy is endless. As practiced in fact by the majority of ordinary followers, religions are anything but totally benign benefactors in human history. Religion is capable of spiritual realization or horrific harm. Spiritual discrimination in the Vedantic sense is required. Tom Rea
