Guest guest
hello group I have long struggled with this question...please do enlighten me. what is the fuss about the purpose in life? I understand that everyone has a purpose in this(samsara) game of God called Maya...the insignificant helpless child in Africa to the richest man in US .... then what is the significance of the self realised??? I know i shouldn't be worrying about all this and the aim should be self realisation, however.......say a person like Bill Gates or Mahatma Gandhi ( and many other such beings) are not self realised( or are they?)........but they have served a massive purpose in making significant contributions to the well being of the world! A self realised, that way, should have a greater purpose .... as he realised that he is the infinity! Why is it that a person like Swami Vivekananda make such a significant impact in the world, while the many other noble self realised, do not contribute something so significant?? Kindly excuse the ignorance ..... but the mind wants the answers!! Sunil NimmalaSend instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger. " Bill Gates or Mahatma Gandhi ( and many other such beings) are not self realised( or are they?) " Comment: Here is a quote, discussing the Mundaka Upanishad, from the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda: " There are two words: one is Jnana. the other Vijnana. Jnana may be translated as science - this means intellectual knowledge only - and Vijnana as realization. God cannot be perceived by intellectual knowledge. He who has realized [the Self] by that supreme knowledge - what will become of that man? " " All the knots of the heart will be cut asunder. All darkness will vanish forever when you have seen the Truth. Guest guest
Hello Sunil, According to Swami Vivekanada, the Goal of the universe is to realise oneness with the OM or one Existence. He has also explained that the goal of mankind is knowledge. The goal of the Vedantin is to attain freedom while living. Under Maya we have lost our Real identity. We consider ourselves as physical beings only with name and form. In reality we are the Atman. In ocean there are big waves and small waves. Mahatma Gandhi and Bill Gates are the big waves and countless other human beings are small waves. But we all are part of the ocean. We have to realize our real self by asking the eternal question, " WHO AM I?
