Guest guest
Any source of hope is a great help to us. Human life is difficult in every way. I care to hear your hopes, your struggles and doubts and fears. I care about the human dilemma. I care less and less about so-called " absolute truth " whatever that is. Oh would that spiritual life were as easy as blindly following a formula. Better to restrict ourselves to talk only about our own hopes and fears, our own experiences. People endlessly say what God thinks, what God wants. To me it is delusional to speak for God. Be truthful--talk about what you want. That’s all we can possibly know. We can listen to each other and take whatever is helpful and leave the rest. You come to see your neighbor's garden. She invites you to take some vegetables home. You say, “Thanks, I will take a lovely tomato. No thanks, the bell peppers do not agree with me though they are surely beautiful.” Spiritual traditions are like the solidified wood, the weather-worn bark of a great tree. The solidified wood is the strength that holds the tree up to the sun and rain. We, the living, are the tentative, tender shoots seeking food for the tree. We seek nourishment in our time, in our location, in our own unique manifestation of the One. We are just as unique as any other part of the tree. Without the tender, ever seeking shoots, the trunk itself rots. We will never live in ancient India, ancient Israel or any other holy land or place or time. Relishing the greatness of the ancients is a human way of coping with fear. We wish to worship those we deem stronger or more knowledgeable. We make tangible god figures of the saints who lived in the past. We are all saints. We are a community of saints. We are the tender living roots of today. We can help each other by speaking from the heart. There is nothing special about past glories or times. Stylized behavior and imitation of saints is a curling back into a knotted tangle of roots which refuse to go outward alone. Tangled, balled up roots stunt the life of the tree. We are the Self as much as anyone else who has ever lived. Living itself is revelation. There is no time or place of revelation other than now. Guest guest
Dear Tom, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. RE: " I care about the human dilemma " Comment: Maya represents the human dilemma of being caught up in the illusion of the material world, and failing to recognize the actual unity of atman with Brahman RE: " We are all saints. We are a community of saints. We are the tender living roots of today. We can help each other by speaking from the heart. " Comment: Of course, we have all heard the old saying: " When one blind man leads another, both fall into the ditch " . It is for this reason, we depend on the lessons, taught to us by Great Souls throughout the ages, which we apply to our own particular circumstances of time and place. Guest guest
Hello Thomas wish this mind of mine could think and express itself as clearly as yours. My mind observed a lot of "i" and "we" in the mails and in the everyday life, the quest of my mind is to realise this "i" , From all the reading and soul searching that is done, it is completely convincing that the "absolute truth" is lingering very much inside this body and beyond this mind. There is no dilemma now. I couldn't care less about knowing about the eternity that lies just inside one's own existence and when the existence itself emanates out of that truth. Whenever the thought of "i want", " i desirei wishi hope" comes to the mind, I say to the mind......it is your want your desire your wish your hope, not mine, while knowing that I is also a mind creation. and this I is also to go. This is one of the many ways to know the truth that I chose. The hope is one day I should be able to realise the self and play the role , fulfill the purpose in this world before I depart. The fears, doubts hopefully will vanish by the day, and struggle will go on until the "absolute truth" is realised. Love and best wishes Sunil NimmalaThomas Rea <tomikin wrote: Any source of hope is a great help to us. Human life is difficult in every way.
