Guest guest
dear fellow members, hari om, in the lecture titled 'maya and illusion' delivered by swamiji in london, he remarks at a certain point that the mind is limited. here is the context: no amount of knowledge of the external world could solve the problem. " but " , says the scientist, " we are just beginning to know a little;wait a few thousand years and we shall get the solution. " " No " , says the vedantist, for he has proved beyond all doubt that the mind is limited, that it cannot go beyond certain limits-beyond time ,space and causation. " what i would like to know is an illustration of the limitation of the mind, for the mind, body and soul are nothing but the same substance which when becomes more and more grosser the mind and the body. if the soul is pure and perfect why the mind cannot be perfect?? i ask other fellow members to quell my doubt or if my understanding is flawed to clarify it. The ideal cannot be finite. Anything short of the Infinite cannot be the ideal, and there cannot be an infinite body. That would be impossible, as body comes from limitation. There cannot be infinite thought, because thought comes from limitation. We have to go beyond the body, and beyond thought too, says the Advaita. And we have also seen that, according to Advaita, this freedom is not to be attained, it is already ours. We only forget it and deny it. Perfection is not to be attained, it is already within us. Immortality and bliss are not to be acquired, we possess them already; they have been ours all the time. Guest guest
OM Namah Sivaya Atman (Soul), the self-luminous, is distinct from the Gross and Subtle{constituents eight ; Five senses, Buddhi(Intellect), Mana(Mind) and Ahankara (Egoity)} bodies, just as fire which enters the fuel assumes the attributes of the fuel, so also does the distinct Atman assume the qualities of the body. The real experiencer of anything, in an individualistic way, is neither the Self (Soul) nor the physical body. It is the mind that is the centre of individuality, that individualizes and imprisons a ray of the Atman in what is called the individual soul. The mind is a special, limited particularization of the Soul-consciousness, which is unlimited and never ceases to be all-pervading (God-Consciousness/ ParaSakti/ Supreme Consciousness/ Pure Consciousness/ SATCHITANANDA). The mind is the form of the collective totality of desires, and hence, it is inert and powerless. But it appears to be conscious and powerful as the Inner Self (Soul) is reflected through it, in the form of a reflection, very much limited by its own constitution. Hence it will be clear that the individuality of a person is as much real or unreal as a reflection of a real object. This mind, as embodied in the subtle body, that undergoes the pleasure of heaven or the pains of hell, or for that matter, any experience through a gross or a subtle body. Karma of the individual determines the form or shape of the experience. The Soul is the Absolute which is not really affected by any experience of the mind. The mind is mortal, while the Soul is immortal. Sri Ramakrishna’s saying: ‘The mind is like milk. If you keep the mind in the world, which is like water, then the milk and water will get mixed. That is why people keep milk in a quiet place and let it set into curd, and then churn butter from it. Likewise, through spiritual discipline practised in solitude, churn the butter of KNOWLEDGE and DEVOTION from the milk of the mind. Then the butter can easily be kept in the water of the world. It will not get mixed with the world. The mind will float detached on the water of the world.’ _________ Messenger - NEW crystal clear PC to PC calling worldwide with voicemail http://uk.messenger.
