I am a diabetic and have been suffering from this disease for the past 15 years. I have inherited it from my parents and family which means I have no one to blame but my genetic configuration. If modern science can with the help of stem cell research be able to construct a gene that can produce healthy beta cells( the pancreatic cells responsible for insulin production) and replace it with my defunct and useless beta cells then I and countless others will not only be cured but also be spared of the many repurcussions of long term effetcs of diabetes like Retinopathy and Nephropathy. I fail to understand why science and religion have been at loggerheads ever since the time of Galileo . We all know how he was hounded by the Catholic Church for daring to declare that the earth moved around the sun and not the other way round. Just as he has been proved correct and the church wrong, I hope religion will bow down again in front of the scientists who are involved in stem-cell research.
