Dear List

To get into any form of email debate with Frank Morales is not the way of handling this issue. If you read the article you know that the person has not really read or even if he has read he has not understood Sri Ramakrishna or Swami Vivekananda. That is his loss.

The two points we have to bear in mind are:

In the hundreds of talks given by Swami Vivekananda there is not one place where he has said: "All religions are same" (this exists purely in Morales's mind). Secondly this claim that Morales makes about his term: "Radical Universalism" is not a term generated by Vivekananda - it is conjecture of Morales. He is welcome to generate such conjectures. Fools can live in the world of their own making but the rest of mankind does not have to follow.

Non of us should bother to approach him as he has already shown that he is not of this world. What I have told Hinduism Today is that an incredible article in a credible magazine gives it credence, that is the only part that worries us. Some people may be fooled into thinking that this article reflects the way Hinduism Today editorial team perceives Vivekananda. That will not damage Vivekananda but will certainly damage the credibility of Hinduism Today to represent comprehensive wholesome Hinduism. They have yet to reply.

Namaste Jay,

Of course, you are 100% correct, in saying that

we should not enter into an email debate with

Dr. Morales, which would in effect, be giving

him exactly what he wants: " Recognition " .

By claiming erroneously that Sri Ramakrishna

said that 'all religions are the same', he is

only exposing his ignorance.

Here are some pertinent quotes from the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna:

" Sri Ramakrishna practised different religions and having attained

perfection, having realised the complete truth of this ancient great

saying, proclaimed to the world in a loud voice that all religions are

true, that all religions are but different paths; that one can

approach God, the Self of man, by any of these paths.

Because of difference in time, place and persons, God has given us so

many religions. All faiths are paths but these faiths are not God. The

same Supreme Being has been variously described as Ishwar, God or

Allah by His devotees, in the manner they have understood Him. "

FROM: http://www.kathamrita.org/apostle/m08_intro.htm

" But all the religions are only different paths. The paths are

themselves not the Lord, though if you have sincere bhakti and tread

any path, you can reach Him. If there is an error in a particular path

you choose. "

http://www.kathamrita.org/kathamrita2/k2sec15.htm

" When one develops sincere devotion to Him, one can realize the Lord

by any religion. The Vaishnavas will attain Him, so will the devotees,

the Vedantists and also the Brahmajnanis. And the Muslims and the

Christians shall also attain Him. Everybody will attain God if they

develop sincere devotion to Him. But some people pick a quarrel. They

say, `Unless you repeat the name of Lord Krishna, you will not

succeed.' Others say, `If you don't repeat the name of Mother Kali,

you will achieve nothing.' Yet others say, `Except through

Christianity, you will reach nowhere.'

" Such intelligence is known as `dogmatic intellect'. Thinking that

only my religion is true and all others are false is not right. You

can attain the Lord by many paths. "
