Guest guest
Namaste Jagannath ji, I checked out the article. Very interesting indeed. Quote from above-mentioned: " A scientist must be an atheist, free from all preconceived notions or prior speculations imposed by religious beliefs. " A quote from Fritz Erik Hoevels, a psychoanalyst and the founder of the Germany-based Bund Gegen Anpassung (alliance against conformity) which has been struggling against religious intolerance for the past 30 years. http://www.telegraphindia.com/1050613/asp/knowhow/story_4826739.asp ========================================== Comment: Sri Swami Vivekanandaji said: " As certain religions of the world say that a man who does not believe in a Personal God outside of himself is an atheist, so the Vedanta says, a man who does not believe in himself is an atheist. Not believing in the glory of our own soul is what the Vedanta calls atheism. To many this is, no doubt, a terrible idea; and most of us think that this ideal can never be reached; but the Vedanta insists that it can be realised by every one. Guest guest
Dear Borgen, (I hope that's your name) What you said is exactly what troubles me a lot. We seem to be headed towards a soul less society. Every thought, every action, every attitude is hell bent on achieving only materialistic dreams. Over the years I have developed a hatred for what is termed " science " in the modern age. This is not science, it is merely dry technology at work. Today we feel the absence of the real scientists like Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose. He was a saint who always hankered after the truth and never bothered about name, fame or recognition. Many of his ideas have been stolen and patented by copy cats who have become famous but it would have scarcely bothered him had he known. Swamiji called the ancient seers scientists. I whole heartedly agree with him. Science should be just that, a search for truth, and not a play of gadgets. Today what goes on in the name of science is a mad rush for filthy lucre sponsored by multi national business houses. Sad, very sad. Love & Regards, Jagannath. Guest guest
when we all are aware of the fact that we are working on achieving materialistic dreams and that things are turning out to be dry , then why not work towards it. i agree to everything but there's something like ..where there is a will there is always a way. i believe that rather than talking about things why not work and improve upon the conditions. is it that hard? not many people have access to ramakrishna mission and not every one has an access to sree ramakrishna's teachings, all the teachings are more or less same. aren't they? what jesus said is similar to what thakur said and similar to what some other saint emphasised on , more or less same. still why is it that we just talk and discuss about it and feel sad about it. why dont we work or do something about it. isnt it true that we do need these materialistic things? in proportion, ofcourse. and god makes sure we get that the same way. why do we always forget one thing... we might scream and cry and say that "i love god, i love thakur" and forget to even know thakur's wish. it is taken for granted that if i love thakur and if i repeatedly chant his name, he will come to me, he will take care of me. even a simple thing of chanting thakur's name, how many of us really know the power and have felt it??? there's a lot of difference in being religious and being spiritual. and the journey into spirituality is well justified when it comes through the materials. correct me, if i am wrong, but realising spirituality is not easy and is not everyone's cup of tea. getting to a stage where thakur comes and sits with you and speaks to you, is not easy and it can be earned through this materialistic path, nothing wrong in this. ask thakur, if you are that close to him, ask him, he will tell you, the gadgets and the science that we work with to earn a better lifestyle, there's nothing wrong in it, because what governs these is nothing but the cosmic energy and this energy has the solution to everything, what we manage to produce is just a small replication and use of this cosmic science. realise spirituality, be spiritual and teach spirituality and let people know that it is nothing different than living an ordinary life , its all realising the simple fact that its thakur's wish and his laws, we are puppets. Guest guest
Dear Jagannath I understand your views on modern science and feel the need for science focused on the search for truth (a.k.a. spirituality) But please do not develop aversion in the process... since aversion becomes another binding just like materialistic desire. Guest guest
RE: " what jesus said is similar to what thakur said and similar to what some other saint emphasised on " Namaste, Actually, I like to think that what Sri Thakurji said, as an 'extension' of what Jesus said. I see the Master, as a 'Channel' of the very same Spirit, which inhabited the earthly body of the carpenter from Nazareth. He always comes back to us, to 'elaborate' on his previous Holy Words. Sort of an update.... His love for us is so great. Om Shanthi Om
Guest guest
Dear Taposhri, Thank you for your view. One must have faith, but faith alone without Karma is not good in this world. Even a Sanyasi need material support for sustenance. Life must be simple that is the essence. Extreme view about anything is wrong! If you believe in everything being Brahma that is. Spirituality is dormant in every human heart. One must reject all extreme views to have a relatively peaceful life and one must develop an attitude to allow time and space for others. This can be done with a need based philosophy with a touch of tolerance for others i.e. considerations for others! I think in modern day world, more people have food in their tummies, more are clothed, more have shelters and generally mankind is far more properous than say 50, 100 or 200 years ago! This is all possible due to our fantastic material progress. Better communication today makes us aware of all ills around the world in no time, which could not have happened say 40, 50 or 100 years ago. So I say do your duty, without being a judge, and carry on enjoying your life like an Atmananda. Om tat sat. Asis Bagchi
