Guest guest
GOD CONSCIOUSNESS AS A GOAL Four things are absolutely necessary for the purification of the heart and for conquering the animal nature. 1. Self Control, which includes the control of senses and the control of mind by the practice of concentration; 2. truthfulness; 3. Disinterested love for all; 4. Unselfish works. In one of the Upanishads we read: " He shall not attain to spiritual perfection who has not ceased to follow wicked ways, who has not subdued his senses, who has not controlled his mind by concentration, and who is not truthful and kind to all. " These lines contain the whole of ethics and essence of all the scriptures of the world. The secret of spiritual progress lies in the practice of these four. Whether we believe in God or not, whether we have faith in any prophet or not, if we have self-control, concentration, truthfulness and disinterested love for all, the we are on the way to spiritual perfection. Guest guest
Namaste, What beautiful golden words from the good Swami. Thanks for sharing. Sri Ramakrishna places TRUTH on the highest level: " If a man clings tenaciously to truth he ultimately realizes God. Without this regard for truth he gradually loses everything. If by chance I say that I will go to the pine- grove, I must go there even if there is no further need of it, lest I lose my attachment to truth. After my vision of the Divine Mother, I prayed to Her, taking a flower in my hand: 'Mother, here is Thy knowledge and here is Thy ignorance. Take them both and give me only pure love. Here is Thy holiness and here is Thy unholiness. Take them both, Mother, and give me pure love. Here is Thy good and here is Thy evil. Take them both, Mother, and give me pure love. Here is Thy righteousness and here is Thy unrighteousness. Take them both, Mother, and give me pure love'. I mentioned all these, but I could not say: 'Mother, here is Thy truth and here is Thy falsehood. Take them both'. I gave up everything at Her Feet, but could not bring myself to give up truth " .
