Guest guest
Hello everyone! I would like to discuss the concept of Karma Yoga with the group. In our everyday world we are always bombarded with results oriented achievements, from the early years in schools we look at results in SATS exams, in secondary school we have GCSE progressing to further education and eventually employment. Working with detachment is a hard concept to follow, especially when we are assessed and our abilitites judged on results and performance. Karma Yoga states that we should work without focusing on the fruits of the work, leaving this in the hands of God, some may argue how can we leave such fruits of results in another persons or higher being's hands. They argue we are driven to make resutls. I would like to know how each of us practice Karma Yoga in our daily lives. How we practice work with detachment. How do we learn from negative results. Recently I have been working in school in a nursery class, and with effort put into my work, I was later very upset to hear that my school report was not so good. How should we feel when results do not come upto expectation? Comments and views are most welcome, with prayers Neil Mukherjee. How much free photo storage do you get? Guest guest
When we do work with intention of results , we get agitated with whatever/whoever trying to deviate us from results . This agitation causes health(physical and mental and spiritual) issues for us. When we do work with intention of results , normally we forget the path to it and only focus on the end . Because of this we will not enjoy and do the current work well. Also , we all know that, to do any work with 100% efficency , we should not have any distractions . Having results of the work in mind our efficency will reduce and thus we will not do best work. If you take any great guys , krishna , buddha ,christ etc.. they dont want anything , but still did their job at the best . I dont think there were ever people born who could such a work still so far. So , karma yoga is the secret of doing work which will cause less pain to us and also in the effect brings us more work from us . You may temporarily feel that others are taking credit and that ur focus is not there and all those things. Do a simple test work with no result oriented for one week and with result oriented another week. Observe the change and you know it urself . Neil Mukherjee <lakegreen2 wrote: Hello everyone! Guest guest
Dear Neil, In response to your email, my view is that Karma Yoga is about freeing one from bondage of the material world and enabling one to become 'one with the supreme', whilst at the same time continuing in every day activities and fulfilling one's duties within family/community/society.. With the knowledge of the supreme and your relationship with it, whilst you work, you are free from the up's and down's of actual results which occur as a result of all activities. These results are incidental in the overall picture, hence when you say results sometimes are negative, this is the proof that when focusing on the results this leads to further material bondage, effecting the senses which effect the mind.. These senses are after satisfaction and contentment, but we know that through material activities the senses can never be satisfied in the long term, it only leads to further misery and bondage to the material world. In practice, I work with the best of my abilities (I take full responsibility of my work and do not leave this up to anybody else), and learn through the positive and negative of the results that my works achieve at the material level.(Everyday life level). I never get carried away with the results, however positive or negative they may be.. At the spiritual (higher) level, I'm not the doer or the receiver of anything and keep my ego in check, by reminding myself of my position as part and parcel of the ultimate supreme. This puts the material world and their results into context. Jay Shri Krishna Paresh
Guest guest
Neil, i think the point about focusing on action and not the friuts is precisely that. krishna also says " let not the fruits of action be your motive. " your expectations on someone elses to judge or validate what you are doing at school is trap that you have fallen into. Place all your energies in intense work and action. That is all. It is of course hard, but let us not fall into the trap of thinking that our work colleagues or our boss are the ultimate beneficiaries or the true givers of fruit. These types of truths are only provable by long term experiments, in practice
Guest guest
Hello Neil, As you have asked how each of us try to practice Karma Yoga, I would like to share with you my thoughts. I think the main idea is to do your duties and work without expectation. When you worked so hard and your report was not what you expected, disappointment is bound to set in. Therefore, doing your duties without expectations is the key and that will not be followed by disappointment. I am not very knowledgeable in Karma Yoga but this is the least that I could understand. I am sure you will receive many other comments. All the best

Namaste, The Bhagavadgita is the last word on Karma Yoga. Sw. Vivekananda's lectures on Karma Yoga are the next best resource. Gandhi-ji's writings on Gita are next. I chant the Gita verses that apply to the situations I find myself in, and the problems are taken care of! Regards, Sunder
