Please give me more information on the same – I reside in Mumbai, India. Thanks, Raman ===========================response============================ Namaste Raman In the United Kingdom, religious studies (in all world religions) is not only possible in all schools, it is positively encouraged. One of the most popular subjects being taught in schools is Religious studies. It is possible to sit for examinations set by London University Board (called edexcel) or other boards like Cambridge and Oxford or AQA (in Manchester). Youngsters sit for GCSE examinations at the age of about 16 (old matriculation level) and then they can study for Advanced level Hinduism and sit for the examinations at the age of about 17 or 18. The subject matter is pretty comprehensive and covers all aspects of religious studies including, rituals, scriptures and philosophy. At advanced level it allows one to study set texts like Kathopanishad, Gita, Yoga sutras and also study the lives of recent proponents of Hinduism like Sri Ramakrishna. We as Vivekananda Centre London are the most active body promoting and training youngsters to sit for these examinations. The performance of our youngsters is of the highest calibre. At Advanced level examination this year about 40 percent of our candidates achieved the highest A grade. And five of them obtained 100percent marks in the Hinduism Module. This exercise may be very lengthy and long winded but...if you want to explore this material then Full details can be viewed by visiting the London University board site at http://www.edexcel.org.uk then clicking GCSE or (GCE for Advanced level) then clicking religious studies and then finally searching for 'world religions' (which includes Hinduism). jay
