Guest guest
Om Namah Sivaya Sri Ramakrishna’s saying: “Many think that knowledge of God cannot be attained except through the study of books. But higher than reading is hearing, and even higher than hearing is seeing or realising. The hearing of the truth from the lips of the preceptor makes a greater impression on the mind than the mere reading of books; but seeing makes the greatest impression. Better than reading about Benaras is hearing about the place from the lips of one who has actually visited it; but the best is to see Benaras with one’s own eye.” Tirumantirum (verse 2316): Attain Jnana and Enter Heavenly Home He who, the elephants of senses five subdues, Lights the lamp of Jnana And entering its radiance, Drives the darkness within; For him It is easy To ascend the Heavenly Home (Siva Loka). Tirukural: (1)'A' is the first and source of all the letters. Even so is God Primordial the first and source of all the world. _________ To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Security Centre. http://uk.security. Guest guest
Dearest Selvaratnam, Thank you for this excellent quote. I personally feel this is one of the most important teachings of Thakur. In this world of intellectuals (?) this teaching is extremely important. The other day I was discussing this with a Revered Monk of the Order. We were discussing how Thakur would ask the new devotee, " What is the level of your education? Have you read the Panchadasi etc? " If the devotee hung his head in shame and replied in the negative, Thakur would be overjoyed, exclaiming, " Bancha gechhe " , " I am so relieved !! " Thakur knew that formal bread winning education and a cursory dip into the scriptures was a great hindrance to God realisation. Everyday when we go to sleep we should ask ourselves, " What have we realised today? Have I progressed or have I merely inflated my ego with superficial knowledge? " Thank you once again. Immense Love, Jagannath.
