Guest guest
Namaste I have this doubt about eating non vegetarian food. why is non vegetarian food not adviced to the ones who are doing sadhana? or is it ok? I heard that swamis in the maths in US and elsewhere eat fish(even read Ramakrishna used to eat fish). If the swamis were to go bring their own fish, would they still catch the fish, and watch the fish die? that way even plants have life..... and we may be killing thousands of microbes unknowingly. But knowingly....as we can feel the pain of the flesh...... i see no reason for justifying non vegetarian food, unless we are forced to eat it for survival in the absence of anything else!! Any reason justifying this............could also translate to justifying killing of humans for the "right" reasons!!! I know the question is one of ignorance and in the highest state all questions vanish....but in the present state i would be pleased to see any answers. Guest guest
Sunil, Vegetarianism has been discussed several times on this group. Just search for " vegetarian " and keep going through all the partial searches and you will find many posts regarding this issue. Guest guest
You may find Swami Vivekanada's views in the last paragraph of the letter at " The Education that India needs " available at www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info then Complete Works of Swami Vivekanada, then Volume 4, then Translations: Prose. Pico searching that site for " vegetarian " will yield other results as well. Guest guest
It is best indeed to use our personal experience and try to find out which kind of food fits best to us.even creatures as cows, elephants etc.are not truly strict vegetarians-they swallow lots of insects with the green stuff they eat.so,that´s how they get some important elements. i say that from the position of someone who bursted into vegetarian diet in the worst way possible.i missunderstood it(some 10 and more years ago)and decided to eat only fruits and vegetables,no fats,no whites.so that exhausted my both body and mind and lead to results such as buleimia and anorexia.anyway i followed the path and began to look for my way to stay vegetarian ,but to get the vital elements from food in the same time.it is not easy indeed to find a well ballanced vegetarian diet, but it is possible. my latest researches(tested on me)shows that vegetables and fruits, better grown in some relatively clean place, nuts and seeds, cereals and(notice this please)-pure fat fish oil(not flesh)give very good results. It let us have both perfectlyl controlled and concentrated mind as well as vital and active phisical body(presently i´m working in iceland and sometimes i need to stay on my post more than twelve hours a day).this kind of diet does not produce any agressive thoughts or desires.we may keep a clear vision and follow ,undesturbed, any spiritual practice. so in that way of thinking,i do completely agree that we just have to try and find out the best food for our way of spiritual development. and do also believe that a truly devoted soul could completely extract and transform the vital energy from any kind of food matter,if necessary in some extreme conditions.it (the food )should just keep us going up,shoudn´t it? with great affection to everyone in this group, hare om -mihaela
