Guest guest
There is an excellent chapter in the book, " Ramakrishna As We Saw Him " about the photographs of Sri Ramakrishna. (Chapter 42). Swami Vidyatmananda researched extensively about Thakur's photographs for Christopher Isherwood's book " Ramakrishna And His Disciples " . According to Swami Vidyatamanda there were three pictures taken of Thakur during his lifetime. Picture 1 is at Keshab's house. Picture 2 is the studio portrait. Picture 3 is the famous worshipped pose taken at Dakshineswar. There were 2 photographs taken of Sri Ramakrishna's body on the afternoon of his death. Ram Chandra Datta had a photograph taken of Thakur. On seeing the print, Sri Ramakrishna said, " Who is this? Am I such an angry man? " Ram Chandra understood that the photo did not meet the approval of the Master and so he threw the print and the negative in the Ganga. So, Sri Ramakrishna has been photographed 6 times, 5 in existence.
