Shankaracharya on Om From the Commentary on the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad

Om is used to serve as a means to the meditation on Brahman. As other scriptures say, "This is the best help (to the realization of Brahman) and the highest."

1 "One should concentrate on the Self, uttering Om."2 "One should meditate upon the Supreme Being only through the Syllable Om."
