Dear Friends,

We can have a fair idea of where "science" is headed if one takes a look at the response to HH The Dalai Lama's impending speech on "Neuroscience and Meditation" during his visit to the USA in November. He is to speak at the Society for Neuroscience.

Are they against the Dalai Lama's visit or against "empathy and compassion"? Both I guess.

We must be alarmed at the way science is being projected.

Regards,

Jagannath.

Dear Sunderji,

Namaste. Thank you for the links. The first one contains reactions from

readers. Reading them soothed my heart. Recently mainstream science has

become very critical of religion and spirituality. Our own scientists

of the Space Research Centre at Sriharikota were taken apart because

they have the habit of praying at Tirupathi for the success of the

space launches.

The Indian scientists have always been very spiritual at heart and yet

they are the best in the world. Spiritually has never interfered with

their scientific attitude. My younger brother is a scientist. He is

also an initiated devotee of the Ramakrishna Mision and is very serious

in his spiritual pursuits. His interest in spirituality does not make

him less of a scientist.

Srimat Swami Ranganathanandaji always stressed that science and

religion were searching at the same truth but from different angles.

Whereas scientists have to " see and believe " , spiritual people first

believe and then see. That is the difference. In spirituality faith

comes first, realisation later.

During the recent earthquake in India and Pakistan, a scene of a TV

studio in Islamabad was shown when the earthquake struck. Both the

anchors as well as the participant raised their hands and

chanted, " Allah, Allah... " . They did not say " Science, science... " Till

all the mysteries of nature have been solved, we have to depend upon

spirituality and have faith in God's words. Untill spirituality is

proved wrong it is unfair to dub it false and unscientific.

God is the source of all knowledge. Science is a branch of knowledge.

Can it afford to cut off the source by refuting the existence of God?

By doing so it will distance itself from the general population.

If I have to choose between the Dalai Lama and a group of irreverent

scientists, I will have no qualms about choosing the venerable Lama.

Regards,

Jagannath.
